Your Labor Is Not In Vain

Dirty hands after a long day of work.

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58

How often do we find ourselves in a position where, even though we think we are doing everything right, life still feels difficult. Though none of us should expect life to be easy, we can trust that living in integrity promises us hope and peace. The Apostle Paul wrote letters to the Corinth church. As Christians, The Corinth church was up against opposition from the society they lived in. I think we can all relate on some level to what this church was experiencing. The Church was going against what culture currently found acceptable, trying their hardest to live holy and set apart. Paul was urging the church to be faithful and strong, not to live like the Corinthians around them but as Christians should. These were Paul’s urgencies:

Be steadfast

Be faithful to the Lord and keep going.

Be immovable

Don’t comprise your behavior and beliefs.

Be always abounding in the work of the Lord

Work done for the Lord is an eternal investment, guaranteed to continue to matter for eternity.

A Daily Reminder

1 Corinthians 15:58 is a verse that I’ve had on my white board in my office for the last few months. I glance at and read it a couple times a day. Life can be challenging and responsibilities we all have don’t make it any easier. What inspires or motivates you to stay focused on things that truly matter? Choose today to prioritize your time with enteral things… things that are beyond service to yourself. I’m reminded of 1 Corinthians 15:58 and Colossians 3:23-24 which states,

“23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
