Why its Important To Read The Bible

There are many important reasons to personally read and study The Bible outside of a formal church service. In doing so, we learn more about the character of God and how He wants His followers to act, speak and conduct themselves. If you have chosen to put your faith in Jesus, then you represent Him in this dark world. Therefore, it is essential that we respond in action, as Christians, by drawing closer to Jesus and abiding in Him. You may be wondering “how is this accomplished?”. The Bible says, we should, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (Joshua 1:8). The only way to properly live out your faith is by knowing “this Book of Instruction” or “The Bible”.

Reasons for Developing a Daily Discipline

Developing a daily discipline to read and study God’s word will help in many ways. One of those ways is that we would be less likely to be deceived by ungodly teaching. A majority of the time people unknowingly hold onto ideas that have no Biblical basis. Maybe it’s fusing in astrology (zodiac symbols), tarot card readings, psychic mediums or some other spiritual thing. Or, it’s holding onto beliefs about Christianity without researching if the information is accurate. Both situations can be harmful for a Christian. This could result in the foundation of someone’s faith to be compromised. This will result in the weakened foundation to give way under the pressure and trials of life (Matthew 7:24-27). Don’t let that be you. Evaluate your beliefs and consult what the Bible says.

Throughout scripture a recurring theme develops where an individual can take one of two paths. Either, the narrow or wide path. The narrow path is considered the correct path for a Christian to take while the wide path leads to destruction. People often get lured off the righteous narrow path by their own sinful desires or lead astray by a teacher they are choosing to follow. It’s best to trust God’s word above mans’ opinion. When you have a question about life or how to deal with a situation consult what The Bible has to say. Reading and studying Gods word will help keep you from straying off the path that God has set for you. Ephesians 2:10 states: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” God has a plan and a purpose for your life. He has prepared good works for you to do. Therefore, let your conduct represent Him well and live a life on that “narrow” path.
