What Is Influencing You?

Have you took a moment to evaluate what you’re opening yourself up to lately? What you’re allowing to influence you?
Influence is defined as:

the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.

There are so many things constantly trying to compete for your attention. Ads trying to convince you to buy things you probably don’t need. News trying to persuade you to feel a certain way. Society trying to pressure you to conform to the newest standard. Everything we open ourselves up to is attempting to influence us in some way. If you’re going to be influenced by anything, let it be the word of God.

Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” The Bible should be guiding us, directing us, influencing us. The Bible should be our compass. It’s hard to know how we’re supposed to conduct ourselves if we’re not reading God’s word. Psalms 119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” We need to get into God’s word because it allows us to learn more about God, supplies nourishment to our faith and provides instructions for our daily lives.

Do an honest assessment on where you are at personally. Reflect on the following questions:

• Have you been reading your Bible?
• Doing a daily devotional?
• Has it been more than a week since you got into your word?
• Do you only get into your word at church?

It’s so important to get into your word daily. Remember everything is attempting to influence you. To influence your character, development, or behavior. Believer, make sure the Bible is influencing you more than anything else in your life.
